At this point, Abraham had reached the time where he could now go out on his own as an adult. At the age twenty two, Abe was working on different farms and woods doing manual labor work. He did well in this, and was known for his skill in wielding an ax. Lincoln eventually headed towards New Salem, Illinois, where he worked as a postmaster, shopkeeper, and general store manager. There he built many different social and communication skills, and gained the favor of the people in town. The Black Hawk War occurred during this time, and the town elected Abraham as their captain. He was one of the first men to step up and end something that was not right for humanity. Not only did he believe that this it was inhumane to treat people like they were property, but he believed in the rights of all. The self-drive that Lincoln had learned to build in childhood, from his father creating the abundance of land and respect on his own, to Sarah telling him that he needed to learn how to read, lead him to make history that will forever be talked about. Lincoln believed in what he thought was right, and stood up for it. He took the initiative on himself to start the revolution where African Americans would slowly start to gain the same right as everyone else in America. President Lincoln was so passionate about what he believed in, that he was killed for what he did. Booth, a southerner who believed that slavery should still be in play, assassinated him at a theater. Someone whose life was sacrificed for the equality of everyone today is someone who has influenced not only America, but made an influence on the world. He showed that no matter you believe in, no matter how many people are against you, and no matter what the environment around you is, whether it be the country splitting in half or just a simple right, fight.
