Many people who come towards the sight of the child know that they should not compensate the suffering child with care, let alone even attempting to let the boy into our city. They very well know that by having the boy be comforted and/or let out would cause inevitable destruction towards the city of Omelas, forever. This a sheer display of Absolutism, an ethical belief that leads directly to the right or to the wrong in moral ethics. The people that think this would believe that such a sacrifice is but of the cruel means of the people and not the necessary means of the people. Through and through, pain and despair has lingered out throughout various societies and ostracized the people from any potential peace and harmony. “Dead” as in the essence of unliving, diminished, lame, and depraved of life itself. The child contains only his contorted mind and the understanding of his current position. As sorrowful as it may seem it cannot be helped, the child must stay, the child must suffer for the good of the people.
