The Party controls every source of information, managing and rewriting all content. Therefore, memories become unreliable, and citizens are willing to believe what the Party tells them. The Party changes the past to manipulate the present and gain power and control. Furthermore, in Orwell’s predicted version of the future of society, the head of society will physically control people to gain control and power. Written in 1984, “You had to live in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard“ (Orwell 3). In addition to manipulating their minds, the Party also controls people's’ bodies through constant supervision. The Party constantly watches for any sign of disloyalty, and any slight suspicions could lead to an arrest. A person’s own nervous system becomes his greatest enemy.
