Accepting Incentives

Charities improve the lives of those in need all around the world. Many of them offer incentives for contributing. But is this morally okay? Offering incentives to contributing to charity isn’t unethical because it actually helps the charity even more. Offering incentives to contribute to charity is beneficial because it gets even more people who want to donate that way. Many people will donate to the organization if they also get something in return, but the amount of those people can greatly influence the charity and helps so much more worldwide. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, for example, offers a house to one of it’s donators, I believe annually. This causes more people to donate to St. Jude’s in hopes of winning the home, and their money saves children’s lives everywhere. At my school, Poston Butte, there are several blood drives throughout the year, and many of the students donate because they get out of class and get free food. While there are many people who give purely for the incentive, they are still helping others, which is the whole point of charity. There are still even more people who donate just because they want to. Those who give for the incentive still make an impact on the world, however, and while their incentive can be selfish, what matters is helping those in need, and offering incentives for contributing gets the job done well. Many people contribute to charities, and while their intentions are selfish, they are aiding the world in making it a better place.
