The main reason it is important to maintain accountability of TA-50 as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) is because you have to set the standard for the soldiers that you are in charge of. If you cannot maintain accountability of your TA-50 then the soldiers will think they don’t have to as well. Accountability of TA-50 is important in the military because soldiers are often times required to perform extremely challenging duties and services. Without accountability, a soldier cannot be expected to meet these high demands and expectations. Enlisted soldiers are responsible for all items issued to him whether it be a weapon, Night Vision Goggles, to shirts, to socks, to Army Physical Fitness Uniforms, to Army Combat Uniforms, a vehicle, or some TA-50, a field manual, medication, Basic Initial Issue, etc. The NCO’s responsibility is to make sure that the soldier is accountable for the items and has eyes on these items when needed. If the NCO cannot maintain accountability the soldier cannot be expected to maintain the same.
In a combat environment accountability of TA-50 is a life or death situation. If we were deployed and on a small COP that takes IDF and someone cannot find their Kevlar or IOTV then that person could be injured by shrapnel or even worse killed because they could not keep accountability of their TA-50.
