The Importance of Gear Accountability
This essay I am writing is about the importance of gear accountability in the United States Marine Corps. During this essay I will be explaining the importance of gear accountability, the effects of not having gear accountability, and what we as Marines need to keep in our minds when it comes to keeping track of our gear. Gear accountability is and will always be one of the key elements of the great success of not only the Marine Corps., but also every military organization in the United States. Being accountable means being in the right place at the right time, being in the proper duty uniform, being dependable and always arriving to work on time, appointments on time and most importantly doing the right thing at the right time and all the time. Not only is it important that Marines are on time, but also it is the responsibility of the Marine to always check there gear to make sure they have all the gear necessary for the completion of the missions at hand and the ones to come. If a Marine is always losing gear or has broken/unserviceable gear it will always have an impact on his or her performance in the line of duty.
Keeping track of gear is always a must. If the time comes that you have a pause in your patrols, raids, or movements it is always a good decision to take a quick check to make sure that you have your Marine Corps issued gear as well as everything else that you or your team has brought with you on your mission. It is the job of not only yourself but also your fellow Marines to take responsibility and check not only your gear but the gear of the other Marines. In the line of duty if the enemy obtains pieces of gear from your squad it would endanger the Marines in your squad and fellow armed force members that may come after you. To add the units and individual Marines to whom this gear is issued are held accountable for maintaining them. Losing a piece of gear could have repercussions ranging from payment
