I would say that the above situation required me to think on my feet and apply a variety of approaches to leadership theory in order to control the situation. I definitely applied the Adair’s Action-Centred Leadership approach by focusing what needs to happen and balance the task and the team. My concern for production and concern for people implies that I applied the Black and Mouton and Blake and McCanse behavioural styles. The Situational approach and Path-Goal Theory was without realising it applied as I can identify when looking back in hindsight that the leadership styles I enacted was that of directive, supportive, participative and achievement-oriented.
According to the Blake Mouton model, I definitely would say that the Team Management – High Production/High People leadership style is more applicable to me as I am passionate about my work and does the best that I can for the people who I work with. I am committed to the organisation’s goals and mission, motivate people who report to me, and work hard to get people to deliver great results.
