Adam Braun's Mission Statement
Not many people know who Adam Braun is but he is helping a lot of people by building schools around the world. At one time, he was just a regular college student going to Brown University. Then, he almost died in a shipwreck and he decided that he wanted to do something good in the world. As a kid, he liked to spend time trading stocks and thought he would have a job in finance. But then in college, he spent a semester travelling to poor countries. Seeing the poor kids made a big impact on him. Adam Braun is a good example of how anyone can make a good change in the world. Adam Braun was able to start Pencils of Promise because he wanted to help others, he had specific goals and he was not afraid to try. Adam Braun decided to work to help …show more content…

By a mission statement, where to open schools, how to raise money. One of the first things he did was to write a long mission statement for the company. “Over the years the Pencils of Promise has been in existence, it has helped to build over 200 schools throughout the world”. (Adam Braun, 1). Adam believed giving a child a pencil and giving him a education is the best way to give him a better life. After his mission statement, he came up with a list of where to open schools. He wanted to start with a school in Laos and then go to other poor countries. “ In 2010, Pencils of Promise has goals to attract 5,000 new supporters across the globe, to build seven more schools in committed villages in Laos and Nicaragua, and to continue to identify additional areas of impact around the world.” (Pencils of Promise,1). Having these goals made it easier for Adam because he could make his contacts in those countries and plan how to set up those schools. Lastly, in order to make Pencils of Promise a success his last goal was to raise money. He started by depositing 25 dollars in the bank. (Adam Braun). Then, he had fundraising parties for every one of his birthdays. He also used Facebook for advertising. Chase Bank had a contest on Facebook for a non-profit company to win money. “PoP ranked within the top 100 charities and received a $25k grant from Chase in December.” With all of Adam’s goals he …show more content…

He was in college when he got his ideal to build schools, in poor countries. (Adam Braun,1). Many people that age would just care about finishing up school and getting a job. “He worked as an associate consultant and senior associate consultant for the company for nearly three years”. (Adam Braun,1). However, during this time he was busy thinking how to set up Pencils Of Promise. He showed that his age would not stop him. Adam did not have any experience in education but that did not scare him. He knew that if he grew to a big enough organization he could attract education figures to help him. “1-800-Flowers.com has joined PoP’s efforts to honor and empower teachers around the world by contributing a portion of proceeds from the sales from the POP Collection at 1-800-Flowers.com during the campaign.” Getting this money, he was able to pay people to educate the teachers. Finally, Pencils of Promise has schools in Asia, Latin America and Africa. Traveling in these countries would be scary for some people but not for Adam. Adam’s experience gave him the courage he needed to start a business even though he was young, had no experience in education and had traveled to poor countries.(P.O.P. Adam Braun

He told sad stories that made the audience sympathize with him and dropped hints of humor to keep the audience interested showing his ability to control his audience. He also told success stories that built his credibility to reminding them who he was and why they should listen to him. Although he only told three stories he knew how to engage the audience and get the message across using his ethos, logos and pathos. 1. The evidence that I see in this case of the three kinds of corporate philanthropy discussed in this chapter is in contributions of cash, Fidelity contributed money to many Citizen Schools since 1998 and by 2012 they were contributing to about 22 different middle schools. With in-kind products and services, Fidelity offered 70 different apprenticeships to the schools in topics such as robotics, law, and financial literacy. And lastly with employee time, 95 percent of Fidelity’s employees that took part in the program and went to these schools reported improved team-building skills and 3/4 of the employees reported that they felt more connected to their colleagues and had improved communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.…

My partner and I founded a non-profit organization called GuyCambo several years ago – our objective is to create educational opportunities for the economically disadvantaged children here locally in Stockton, and in our respective countries of Guyana and Cambodia as well. We’re targeting the bottom half of poverty. The Khmer Rouge decimated the education infrastructure and there was nothing left. As a matter of fact, there is still no place for the undeserved children in Cambodia. As a result and extreme poverty, only the very few can afford a good education opportunity. I am bridging the gap for theses under privilege children. I am doing this right now but I want to be able to do this full time, which is why I am getting my education.…

    Jesse Owens Contributions

    • 3 Pages

A man born into a definitively segregated world he worked to achieve racial progress within the realm of sports even as White America did little to budge. His ability to accept his position as an object in hopes that this would someday grow to something greater exhibits his wholesome approach to life. While an emblem of hope for African Americans throughout the country, he became a great inspiration for America as a whole too. He is a man that transcended the color barrier multiple times throughout his life and had a great enough influence to do so for future African Americans within the sports arena permanently. He deserves the distinction of a household name due to his ability to deal with his treatment as an object when he had success, his understanding and determined attitude when he returned to the bottom levels of American life, and his final rise to a heroic status. It was a long journey for Owens and one with much emotion behind it. It was a journey where the opportunities to crack and give in far outnumbered the successes he made, but it was a worthwhile journey. It needs to be understood that within the realm of sports the color barrier is just about vanished, however, in many other aspects of life, there is still much to accomplish. And with that, for the future of this country, and for civilization, and…

Work is at the core of human dignity: it is how we define ourselves and our position in the world. The disparity in access to decent work that pays a fair wage between rich and poor represents, in my mind, the biggest threat to global stability. — Leila Janah, CEO and founder, Samasource As she landed at the San Francisco International Airport, Leila Janah reflected on her most recent visit to Samasource’s delivery centers in Kenya. Founded in September 2008, Samasource connected over 1,500 people living in poverty to work over the Internet. The company secured contracts for digital services from large companies in the United States and Europe, divided the work up into small pieces (called “microwork”), and then sent it to delivery centers in developing regions of the world for completion through a web-based interface. Samasource, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with 20 people working at headquarters, was growing rapidly. By October 2011, the company worked with 16 partner delivery centers in South Asia (India and Pakistan), Africa (Kenya, South Africa, and Uganda), and Haiti (see Exhibit 1 for a map of Samasource’s partner delivery centers). The company had disbursed over $1 million in direct payments to workers. The data Samasource had collected showed that its work had an impact on over 6,000 people in these developing regions. While the company had come a long way since its founding, Janah also knew that it still had far to go to fulfill its mission of fighting poverty through the provision and execution of digital work. As she walked off the plane, her mind started racing with the scaling challenges the company faced. How could Samasource best secure additional funding to sustain and accelerate its growth? How could it best help entrepreneurs at delivery centers and workers develop new skills? And even more fundamentally, how could this social business efficiently…

Since the age of 7 years old, I have been a participant of the benevolent organization Junior Achievement. My earliest memory of being a participant of Junior Achievement is when Mr. Michael Troutman visited the Boys & Girls Club of Trenton/Mercer County in 2006.Mr. Troutman taught a lesson about entrepreneurship and I was immediately compelled to learn, when he mentioned how successful entrepreneurs make a lot of money. Using what I had learned from the lesson, I started a candy business. I ran the candy business from June to late August and made a very satisfying profit. Ever since Mr. Troutman came to the Boys & Girls Club, I have stayed involved in Junior Achievement.…
