3.8 million children are currently living in poverty in the UK, one area in particular that is affected by this is education. By the time they start school, many poor children are already lagging behind, this can continue throughout their whole education.…
As a current full-time student with an incessant thirst for knowledge of all things existential and transcendental, as an advocate of reflective literacy in all people, and as a compassionate activist for the publicity of important philosophical musings or sociological findings, I pen this summary in hopes that The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will thoughtfully and meaningfully provide the funds for my student-run humanitarian organization to purchase a space in the extremely low income…
The A-Team was contracted by Cango to provide recommendations for the management team to help improve their operations so the company can continue its success. During the initial analysis of CanGo’s operations it is evident the company is facing a series of deficiencies translating to the difficulties in maintaining a stable operating environment. CanGo’s small business mentality is getting the best you. There are several strategic recommendations we can provide CanGo that must be addressed immediately to assure its success.…
Without some the reversals in his own life, he would have been unable to become the man he was. That is why I would like to institute a community service project titled “A Series of Fortunate Reversals” (ASFR), to help combat education inequality in low-income areas. To be a part of ASFR, parents must demonstrate a willingness to work, to better their own lives with support of the AU community, ASFR is not a free handout. Preferably, ASFR will work with mothers during the developmental years, from pregnancy to the age of six. Families will receive support from departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Kogod School of Business. Students and faculty from the elementary and secondary education, health promotion, psychology and finance majors will support ASFR families. This way parents can gain financial and mental health counseling and learn how to lead a healthy lifestyle for themselves and children. They will also receive academic support for themselves so they will be able to support their children through their own academic journeys. Children will also receive academic support and counseling if needed. By providing these support systems, the goal is to showcase the value of education and to encourage a life-long love of learning. Families can participate in many of the free events held throughout the city of Washington DC as extra enrichment. Education is often the key to…
One organization that I’m involved at Goucher College is the Futuro Latino Learning center (FLLC). This program provides opportunities specifically to the Latino community of Baltimore County. The students of Goucher College teach classes and there is ESL and basic computer training. Students are not only helping the Latino community but they get the opportunity to speak Spanish and improve their language skills. In my first year of college I helped with teaching a class; I was the assistant tutor. Now this year I am helping out with the children program playtime and cultural program. While the adults are taking their classes they drop off their children. This program provides a safe space and for children to learn about their culture and speak…
Throughout the past few years I have taken part in many projects and activities to foster education and global engagement. The most recent is my upcoming outreach trip to the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club. This trip was planned by myself, 3 other education students and our faculty supervisor. The purpose of this trip is to provide support for the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club (AZBGC). As Education students, we are taking this opportunity to provide daily lessons for the children who visit the Boys and Girls Club. We started the planning in September and we have put in over 120 hours since then in order to make this trip as beneficial for the children at the AZBGC. Apart of this planning, we have raised funds to help support the children's’ education costs. While planning for this outreach trip, I decided to partner with a local grade seven class to teach them about social justice. Their classroom teacher told me that with the recent media attention in the USA she is having difficulty teaching her students about justice and discrimination. We decided to partner together to teach both the Ugandan Children as well as the Canadian grade seven class about what it is like to live in a different part of the world. This partnership will entail writing letters to each other as well as creating a video about life in each of their respective locations.…
“Together we can help the poorest of the poor live a life of dignity, free from poverty.” You can help by; hosting a Caritas Kitchen, gather and host a Caritas Ks, donating to Project Compassion, organising your own fundraising event, or joining a sponsored event. Fundraising is also an opportunity to raise awareness about important issues, and a chance for the community to take part in a social justice action. Everyone who contributes is empowered, and able to stand in solidarity with the people for whom they’re raising funds. All the money raised during these fundraising events is used to provide the poorest of the poor all around the world, with facilities that they previously couldn’t afford. Just $5 can provide a tray of seedlings, so a farmer can diversify the crops they grow in their farm in Fiji, and $930 could provide two adult dairy cows for a farmer so his family can generate a stable source of income in Indonesia. $8500 could construct a borehole that would provide 500 households with access to clean water in Malawi, and $570 could provide two days of training for health centre staff so they can share new knowledge about childhood nutrition with local communities in Cambodia.…
In my corner of the world, poverty is present, however many are unaware of those who struggle to make ends meet. This corner of the world is considered the suburbs to many, but to some it is the place they struggle to survive. Just like Samson’s write, “The suburbs seem particularly designed to avoid facing the bigger issues of life” (Samson, 58). The two projects that I ventured out to be apart of were Restore Hope Ministries, and Voice of the Martyrs. These two organizations are truly bringing light to the darkest parts of world, and reaching those who are disenfranchised and on the periphery of society.…
Around the world, 61 million children aren’t able to go to school. UNICEF is working in the world’s hardest to reach and poorest communities to ensure all children complete a basic school education. It does this with the support of the IKEA Foundation…

These laborers support their families by working long hours and meager wages. They have little or no formal education and virtually no chance of a better life without one. Spending time with the workers that I’ve befriended in my compound has made me fully aware of how blessed and fortunate I am to be able to go to school. I’m convinced I have a promising future. I’m grateful for it, but shamelessly there have been a few times when I have taken my studies for granted by not putting forth as much effort as I could have or by complaining about having to get up early for class. All that has changed though. Knowing the extreme sacrifices that the poor make to provide for their loved ones has changed my attitude and thinking. Sadly, I’ve witnessed individuals do whatever it takes to survive. It’s my hope that someday I can help people acquire the literacy skills needed for a better life either through charitable service or by making generous monetary contributions to organizations that support literacy. Nelson Mandela said it best, “Education is the most important weapon we have to change the world.” This realization drives me to appreciate the life I live, cherish the circumstances I have and to take advantage of the countless number of opportunities I’ll encounter in my academic journey so that I can be of service to others in my global…
To accomplish this goal I have created a plan. Step by step. First I am going to finish my studies to learn everything that I need to create the non-profit organizations; I will do this putting my effort, to do my assignments in time. When I have finished my studies I will use Amway; the company where I am working right now as my friend to help me. They have one of the biggest marking networks around the world. In Guatemala, Amway is not recognized, so they want to launch programs to grow in different Latin American countries. So I am going to fight to get the project for Guatemala. Once I get it, I can fly to Guatemala and stay there. I will be working for Amway making the company grow, but as…
Geoffrey Canada’s program for solving the problem of poverty as been seen to be helpful to the young members of the society. But, within every program there are strengths and weaknesses. Geoffrey focuses on three main ideas to help the children in poverty. First, a business focused model for children’s educational studies. Second, starting children of with a “baby college” at a young age. Third, having contamination seen as a positive aspect for children.…
