Blood pattern analysis (BPA) is the interpretation of bloodstain at a crime scene in order to recreate the actions that caused the bloodshed. This advancement plays a huge role in bloody crime scenes by assisting investigators with details and important information on the crime. The pattern of the stains give detectives a number of clues including the direction of the blood travel, the origin of the stains, the velocity of the bullet if the victim was shot, whether the victim was moved after death, and if the crime scene was tampered with in any way. BPA provides information not only about what happened at the scene, but also what could not have happened as well. This information helps investigators reconstruct the crime, get statements from witnesses, and also eliminates possible perpetrators involved in the investigation. DNA analysis and fingerprinting both play huge roles in identifying people involved in a crime whether it's the perpetrator or the victim. DNA technology is often the critical factor in prosecuting the guilty and identifying the innocent. DNA can be used to compare a suspect's DNA to DNA from the crime scene. A combined DNA index system, also known as CODIS, is one of the most helpful resources for law enforcement. CODIS allows labs to compare new DNA to previously entered DNA anywhere in any location. Another major part in helping solve crimes is the use of fingerprinting. As fingerprints are unique to each individual, they serve as a way for law enforcement agencies to identify a
