I think this is a tricky situation to give advice on. It depends on Paul and Ava’s belief systems, culture, economic factors, and what country they live in. In America, its common and expected that mothers return to work (full-time) after their maternity leave. According to the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) states a mandate of 12 weeks of unpaid leave for mothers of newborn and adopted children (United States Department of Labor, 2017). I think most mothers only take two months or three months of leave. America seems to be the worst for unpaid/paid leave for maternity leave. Just look at the data table provided in the textbook on page 155 concerning weeks of leave.…

In her op.ed “The Satisfactions of Housewifery and Motherhood” written in 1977, Terry Martin Hekker reveals the judgement housewives go through because society does not respect their non-paying job. Hekker opens up by sharing personal encounters involving the embarrassment of telling others her occupation as well as theoretically comparing herself to an endangered species. Hekker continues to elaborate on this metaphor by citing a statistic that states “fewer than 16 percent of American families have a full-time housewife-mother” and as this rate continues to decrease, eventually she will be the only housewife remaining (37). In a humorous manner, she also mentions the enormous fame and publicity she will receive in the future because her profession will be so rare. In a whimsical tone, she gives the example of charging expensive fees for interviews and autographs such as celebrities do. She moves forward by using sarcastic examples such as how it is considered “heroic” to take care of someone else’s children than your own to demonstrate how society views housewives as ignorant and unacceptable. In her finishing sentence, she relates herself back to being an endangered species to stress the ongoing struggle and judgement a housewife, such as herself, faces due to how poorly society views housewifery.…

I have been fortunate enough to experience being both a stay at home mom and a work away from home mom. Currently there is a societal debate on which approach raises a healthier and better adjusted child. On that I cannot comment as I have not yet raised a child to adulthood, but having my own mixed feelings on this topic I can clearly see the vast differences to each method. Does working away from home make a more secure and adaptable child? Does staying home form a stronger bond? Does working away from home leave a child to be raised by a daycare provider with different values than your own? Does staying at home compromise social skills and personality? These are the questions that most parents face when they are trying to balance raising a happy and healthy family with paying bills and providing adequate food and shelter. Is one choice really better than the other? I will attempt to use my humble experience to compare these two approaches, not in an effort to decide which the ideal is, but simply to point out what I see to be the differences between each.…

The factors that lead to the "collapse" of civilizations are almost directly related to those that created it. Archaeologists characterize collapse by a number of elements, some of which we have evidence for, others we do not. Most archaeologists are unsure of exactly what caused the decline of most civilizations in the ancient world, yet there are many clues to some of the events that could have contributed. The collapse of the ancient Roman Empire, the Mesoamerican Mayan, and the Egyptian cultures will be discussed in the following paragraphs, with a focus on the uniqueness of each.…

In today's competitive world, many families find it necessary for both parents to go out to work. While some say that the children in these families benefit from the additional income, others feel they lack support because of their parents' absence due to working constant hours at the office, shop, store, etc. Today’s economic situation forces both parents to go out and work in order to properly provide for their family. With both mother and father working, some children tend to find themselves feeling forgotten or overlooked. In this essay I will describe how having both parents working can be beneficial for the children in the family not only economically, but mentally and socially.…

Nowadays, it is very common for mothers to work outside the home. Whether, a woman should stay at home or join the workforce is debated by many people. Some argue that the family especially a small children may be neglected. However, many women need to work because of economic reasons or want to work to maintain a career.
