The first advantage one can obtain from public speaking is that it improves one’s self-confidence. Most people are not aware that public speaking is a secret tool to boost self-confidence. Just like taking baby steps to something, once can improves one’s speaking skills by giving simple speeches in school to begin with or give an intriguing, informative talk at a senior’s activity center as this is a great way to gain self-confidence (Anonymous, n.d.).
Besides that, one can gain more confidence to help unleash the fear in speaking publicly. Usually, speakers will get cold feet as soon as they are about to present before a crowd. The butterflies in the stomach can actually benefit a speaker if the speaker is able to control stage fright. “Nervousness is what keeps the adrenaline pumping, and even the most practised of speakers feel nervous. It’s how you deal with it that is important,” (Joseph, 2006 as cited in Sharmilla, 2006). Consequently, to enable a person to speak publicly more naturally, one may practice in front of a mirror or tape oneself speaking in order to reflect on the areas that need adjustments
