They had lacked man power. Their military was extremely small compared to the Union. The South had a mass amount of land to defend and lacked people to defend it. They had left themselves open to attack and very vulnerable to invasions. The Confederacy was having an economic down slide. The South was no longer receiving aid from the Union. They were forced to rely heavily on foreign countries for their supplies. The North was able to block off ports which caused the South's economic collapse. The South was very wooded which caused there to be a lack in transportation.
