Adversity In Childhood

Adversity is not defined by a single event, but instead a culmination. Adversity has affected my growth from childhood into adulthood through divorce, the incarceration of my father and my family's lower income. Divorce is relatively common in the American family, and it was common in my household. My parents separated when I was 9 years old. Despite my young age I had to provide a second authority figure to my two younger siblings. Following the divorce of my parents my father was incarcerated. Because my father was in prison and unable to pay child support, my single mother had to provide for three children and herself on the salary of an LPN.
