African American Stereotypes Case Study

The premise of this case is understanding how African American college student are negatively affected by the influence of a stereotypes. The studies research is based on an equal platform for academic performance, however with varying forms of mindset which could sway learning in one way, hence hindering their own ability reach their full potential. The theory is if the students respond differently to academic challenge on the idea that they are not confined into a group stereotype, the students can embrace learning therefore enhancing their grades overall. For the most part in this case, we looked into three main groups to study from. The first group are white students with an average background, an African American group that had a different social experience during earlier stages in their lives, and another group of African American students with similar background and opportunity as their White counterpart. What was discovered about this study is the serious barrier that African American college students have about them
The first group participated in an intervention, or a pen pal program. It was designed to help teach and internalize the notion that intelligence is expandable. At the end of the experiment, data or in this case attitude to learning would be collected and compared to the other set of participant. The second group was also in a pen pal designed program, however different intelligent orientation, this group is a control group and the last group did not participate in an intervention, that way weather there was a positive outcome. Student were asked to have their have transcript and SAT score release, the interventions were made up of three session, about ten days part.
