A few examples would consist of; the, car, fly, far, and so many more. When I got home from school I had quite a bit of homework. My mom would always help me with homework and she even had me reading different words on the back of cereal boxes, oatmeal boxes, and pancake mix so I would know more. Learning sight words are important to learn because they are the foundation of what reading and writing is all about. After learning sight words and the alphabet my teacher would give me different pictures books and only the word of what it was. I believe she wanted me to visualize what I saw and be able to pronounce the object, animal, or person. Every night I at home before bed my mom would make me read a little book to get a better understanding and to build on to my vocabulary. When my family went to the zoo my mom wanted me to point out the animals and say what they are. It really helped being able to go on trips like that because that really helped rather than reading from a book because it built muscle memory by having to think about what I saw in the books I read to what I am seeing in front of me.
After learning sight words and learning how to read by the time I got into second grade I started reading chapter books like Junie B Jones, Captain Underpants, and Diary of a Whimpy Kids. We always had homework to read for at least 30 minutes every night with our choice of reading. On top of just class work my mom would make me read another 15 minutes before I went to bed. Chapter books really challenged me because they were longer than what I was used to. When we went on family trips out of town, I would read license plates and road signs. Before I knew It I was saying and spelling all these different
