Aileen Wuornos

Media is used everyday in our society and because of it, we are exposed to many different opinions on selected topics. Media comes in various ways and often times they appear biased or in favor of something. For things like news, if it isn’t biased, it is surely altered to better captivate the audience. Aileen Wuornos was a victim of this. The moment her crime was shared on the news, people created an opinion based off what they heard. As a result, she was put on death row and killed by lethal injection. The influence of media on the general public resulted in the death of Aileen Wuornos. Wuornos was a girl with a very tragic backstory. Wuornos’s father hung himself in prison with charges of child molestation. Her mother abandoned her and her brother at a young age to her grandparents. The grandfather then sexually abused her and made her have sexual relations with her brother. When her case was broadcasted, they showed pictures of her lashing out in anger like she was psychotic but she was really pleading that she was doing it for self defense. She was later put on trial, pleaded guilty, and sentenced to death row on the Mallory case. Then the jury was sure she was crazy and put her on death row for each of the other cases including the one she confessed to but never had the body recovered. This is 7 sentences to death row.
