From the beginning of her life Aileen Wuornos did not stand a chance. Born the 29th of February 1956 in Rochester, Michigan and named Aileen Carol Pittman and her background with her family would lay all the groundwork for instability in her life and would eventually make her one of if not the most notorious serial killer of modern age. In this paper we are going to cover the life of Aileen Wuornos and how she became known as “Monster”. Aileen never knew her biological father a child molester that in 1969 hanged his self in jail. Clearly, though, she was having sex and at the age of fourteen became pregnant and had a son in the Detroit maternity home in March of 1971. The child was given away for adoption. Britta Wuornos died in July of that same year of liver failure supposedly although Diane, the biological mother of Aileen, firmly believed that she had been killed by Lauri but yet another daughter believed that Britta’s death was a result of the stress that Keith and Aileen had put her through their constantly being truant and Aileen’s pregnancy. Dick Martin and Mike Joyner in their undercover roles located Wuornos at the Port Orange Pub and were moving in to make a gradual arrest so that they would have a case that was airtight. Their planning was almost blown with the Port Orange Police came rushing in and directed Wuornos to go with them outside the pub. Joyner made a frantic call to the commander center of six jurisdictions located in the Pirates Cove Motel to inform the officers to not apprehend Wuornos. The word went out to the officers on scene in the just in time. They released her and she returned to the pub. This potential damaging act by the Port Orange Police Department was not due to a leak but it was later surmised the it was just police officers doing the job that they are paid to do. Martin and Joyner engaged Wuornos in conversation and purchased a couple of beers for her but she left the pub at 10 pm without accepting the offer of a ride from the officers. As Wuornos walked down the street a couple of Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement officer almost ruined the effort to take Wuornos down in a cautious manner by following he down Ridgewood with no lights on. Again a call from the command center was made to have the officers change their tactics and this allowed Aileen to reach her destination which was a biker bar
