A Game of Thrones Packed with intense violence, romance, and everything in between, A Game of Thrones may be the perfect book for anyone looking for an adventure. The complex story and in-depth character development makes it feel as though the book is real. There isn’t a “main” character. Instead there are several main characters whose viewpoints are followed through two continents, Westeros, where the Seven Kingdoms lie, and a continent without a name across the sea. It follows Eddard (Ned) Stark, the lord of Winterfell, his wife Catelyn, his sons; Robb, Bran, Rickon, and his bastard-born son Jon, and his daughters; Sansa and Arya. The Stark storyline takes place in Winterfell, the northern most part of Westeros, for a majority of the book. Another one of the characters that the book follows is Daenerys Targaryen and her brother Viserys through the lands across the sea. A disfigured dwarf named Tyrion Lannister is the final “main” character whose viewpoint is followed. His storyline stretches all throughout Westeros. Each character faces their own conflicts and challenges, but most of them ultimately intertwine with each other. There are a lot more characters that are important figures throughout the entire book. The setting, parts, and plot are the three major characteristics of this book that make it great. All the characters in the book tell their stories in the lands of Westeros, which can be separated into three parts. The north, which contains lands such as Winterfall, The Wall, and several small castles belonging to lesser lords. The south, which contains King’s Landing, the place where the king of the Seven Kingdoms reigns, and other places of great importance such as Dragonstone and Casterly Rock. The final section of the world is located across the sea. It isn’t named, but its capital is Assh’ai. There are also a ridiculous amount of mountains, roads, cities, rivers, lakes, and forests. All

In a world where the approaching winter will last for 40 years, kings, queens, knights and vagabonds struggle for control of the Iron Throne. Some fight with sword and axe, some with magic and poison. To the north, however, beyond the Wall, the Others are preparing their army of the dead to march southward as the warmth of summer is drained from the land. This book stands out by way of its superbly developed characters and adroit prose. Chivalry is a concept integral to the society of the Seven Kingdoms, with tourneys and knights in shining armor galore. These trappings, however, merely give cover to dangerous men and women who will stop at nothing to accomplish their goals. When Lord Neddard Stark of Winterfell, an honest man and perhaps the only good-hearted creature in the noble caucus, comes south to act as the King’s chief…

The HBO broadcasting network debuted my new favorite TV series Game of Thrones in April 17, 2011, which is based off the author George R.R Martin’s novels “Game of Thrones”. Since the first premiere of the fantasy driven drama series: resembling closely with medieval era, I instantly become a fan. Aside from the memorable characters, which oftentimes leads one to develop some form of attachment and then left with the unbearable shock due to well-known bloodlust of surprise executions gives more of reason to tune into the show. I would describe this show as truly unique where nothing is ever expected to be anticipated. It hold’s no true connection or trends to past popular shows, which makes it, stand out from the rest.…

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is the backdrop to many in-depth characters that are essential to the plot. The story is written in the third person omniscient point of view but the reader really only hears the thoughts of Andrew “Ender” Wiggin, the child protagonist of the story. Ender is a round and dynamic character because throughout the story, you watch him grow up fighting prejudices and overcoming challenges that have been placed in his way by the secondary antagonist, Colonel Graff. The reader empathizes with Ender and feels his pain as he is given so many challenges that he almost breaks. The secondary antagonist is Colonel Graff, a flat but dynamic character who acts as a puppet master, controlling, isolating, testing, challenging, and ultimately…

Introduction: Written by Anthony Eaton, the novel A New Kind of Dreaming (ANKoD) is about a troubled youth named Jamie Riley who is forced to re-locate to Port Barren for isolated care instead of going into jail. As the story progresses, Jamie finds himself haunted by the mystery of a young refugee. In the opening of the novel, the reader is introduced to the protagonist who doesn’t seem to belong in this “new town”. The conflicts that this character faces, such as other characters, society and himself, help him to eventually find a sense of belonging and be able to call the “new town” home. Through these conflicts, the reader is urged to consider the importance of belonging and the significance of being able to call a place home because after all, that is what forms our identity and individuality.…

    Game of Thrones

Set in the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, Game of Thrones chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the realm's noble families for control of the Iron Throne. As the series opens, additional threats begin to arise in the icy North and in the eastern continent of Essos. It is a cultural phenomenon based upon a world of fantasy and valor delving into the culture of Westeros, a similar culture to that of Western Europe, and Essos, similar to that of Eastern Asian culture. Aspects derivative of both primordial and contemporary traditional cultures are predominately seen throughout. Represented is a medieval time period in which kings reigned and classes were divided into highborn and lowborn sects. The traits of this medieval culture are directly correlated to the culture of the Western European society in which kings and nobles are still significant. The impact of the medieval is important in the sense that, in comparison to the modern day inertia, medieval culture offered more than that of technology and advancement. Within this culture, there was a purpose. There was no day to day monotony or leisure rather there was a need for survival and a necessity of skill. This culture allowed those within it to experience the world firsthand and learn of the cultures different from their own.…
