Alexander Grabovetskiy: A Brief Analysis

Wood carving is an import part of human’s traditional culture since the human has the desire and techniques to create on woods. Recently, I’m attracted to a wood carving piece from one of the most brilliant wood carvers all over the world, Alexander Grabovetskiy. Alexander Grabovetskiy is a Russian-American, who won the first place of the 2012 International Wood Carver. The artifact I chose is his award-winning work named Wall Decoration. It measures 915mm wide and 150mm thick, which is quite light but unbelievable complicate. Six unknown flowers are in full bloom and surrounded by leaves and cirrus. The cirrus and leaves are built by elegant, circinate textures which make viewers easy to imagine the true feelings of nature; and the flowers
Most viewers will focus on the flowers because of its intricacy, but some cirrus which could be implied lines of the whole piece, extend from one flower and direct viewers’ eyes to the other flowers, after that the circinate textures will shift viewers’ sights back to the original flowers. Although the pattern of the flowers seems more complicated than the leaves and cirrus, the whole piece still set up balanced.
