1. Describe Alexander the Great using the Functions of Management.
The first function of management is planning. In this area, a person is required to set objectives and courses of action in attaining them. One must be aware of his external and internal environmental conditions, and his competitors. All these, Alexander did his best. He assessed the external factors, his enemies, and his army’s capabilities before going to war. He tried to envision future situations. After having set their objectives, he chose which action is the best course to take. The second function of management is organizing. The chain of command had been implemented by Alexander. He specified which cluster will be led by whom, expressly stating which job should be carried out. The manner of carrying out the duties had also been expressed. The third function of management is leading. This is the ability to influence your subordinates towards the achievement of your endeavors. Just like Alexander, he was able to motivate his people to engage into various wars. Effective communication was delivered, and so was the successful utilization of his power. Through this, his people were enthused with his dreams and goals. However, to fully employ this, one must understand his people. With all the wars that he led, he was able to persuade his army to engage into it despite the several years of being away from their homes. The fourth function of management is controlling. This is the part where one must ensure that performance or operations are executed as planned. This is where Alexander established standards. He oversees the actual scenarios against the standards/plans that have been laid out, and takes corrective actions when necessary.
