In one of his more recent popular films Alice in Wonderland he uses high angles while Alice is falling down the rabbit hole. He does this to show how trapped and hopeless she is. The lighting used in between the two worlds is very different at Alice's engagement party the lighting is very bright and lively setting an happy uplifting mood, but as she descends into Wonderland the lighting changes into a dark almost gloomy mood. Burton also uses many different sounds throughout the movie. When she is at the party the music is loud and cheery, you can hear birds chirping in the distance creating a pleasant mood. The music in Wonderland is very different from the real world, Wonderland has a dark and suspenseful sound. The point of the different sounds and lighting is to show Alice is in a diverse place and she doesn’t belong there. The lighting in wonderland always changes, showing that everything in wonderland is artificial and will not be the same for long. Almost all of Burtons movies use the same kind of techniques.
