All about me
As defined in most dictionaries, life is a period of existence, but to me life is not just that. It is a way of living and life is living itself. It is loyalty, love, hope, time, patience, courage, faith, strength, enjoyment, smiles, perseverance, happiness and all of the other beautiful things we often think about.

Some people might not know it, but the happiness of our lives depends on the quality of our thoughts. I do not exactly mean that a person who always keeps an idle mind is not living, but I do mean that he is only half living. Half living is merely a period of existence; not the way of fruitful living. In this brief essay, I will give my opinion of the way I believe a much happier life can be lived

To begin with, the way of living deals with our thoughts. We are what we think we are. We are as old as we feel, as rich as our imagination, as strong as our faith, and as weak as our fears. It is these things that make up life for us; it is our mind that makes the world and our minds are exactly what we make them.

Many of us are are looking for the bright side of life, but there are still those who lead a dull, miserable life. These people are usually too weak to change to the bright side. They are too weak because they think only in terms of themselves. They always try to get what they can from life without adding anything to it. They treat life like a slot machine, putting in a little and always hoping to hit the jackpot.

Some of us are just here living day after day without any special purpose. That's really not the way to live. Living without a purpose is a wasteful way to spend our lives. This means that we are only occupying space and watching time slowly drift away from us.

In 1791, the United States Constitution implemented the Bill of Rights to protect the rights of the individuals by listing specific prohibitions of governmental power. The Bill of Rights consisted of the first ten amendments of the United States Constitution, including the Sixth Amendment—the right to counsel. The Betts v. Brady case, Gideon v. Wainwright case, and Shelton v. Alabama case, each demonstrated how individuals wrongfully suffered due to the lack of appointed counsels. Following these three significant court cases over the past 80 years, the Supreme Court set a precedent for all cases to follow, by ensuring the defendant’s Sixth Amendment right which has led to a more just system—one which acknowledges equal rights of all individuals,…

Swenson proposes the idea that happiness should only be sought in the moral consciousness. The only way to safeguard against the dilemmas associated with the laws of uncertainty is to cultivate an inward desire to serve God. It will lead to genuine happiness and meaningful life. He notes that happiness is not a pleasant moment of enjoyment of the present for thinking beings, but needs something deeper. Total happiness requires life to be infused with a sense of meaning, reason, and…

    - The book opens in 1991, when Charlie writes a letter to some unknown person who "didn't try to sleep with that person at that party" even though they could have. He tells us that he will call people by different names, so as to reserve his anonymity. I like that he opens the book like this because it gives us a hint as to the moral center of Charlie. I also, personally, believe that he is writing to another male, which is interesting in itself.…

J.D. Salinger’s world-renowned book The Catcher in the Rye and director Sean Penn’s dramatic feature film Into the Wild both give us a unique perspective of society through a collection of descriptive imagery and riveting plot development. Both materials present us with protagonists Holden Caulfield and Chris McCandless, whom are deeply encompassed by self-introspection and who seem to be on a quest to find true happiness and meaning to their bland, corrupt lives. A recurring theme in both works is the process of discovering one’s true identity, which can only be achieved through a journey of spiritual self-discovery. In doing so, J.D. Salinger and Sean Penn effectively use their protagonists, their journeys and the relationships they build to express one simple statement; happiness is the most important and essential thing in our lives.…

This story is about a girl who does not want to reveal her inner self, and tries to change her outer self, so she can be liked by other people. The main character, Camilla tries to change herself from the outer side by trying 42 outfits. In my opinion , I would rather wear clothes, I am comfortable in instead of trying to impress others, as beauty lies in the eyes of a beholder(we all have an opinion on what beauty means). Camilla wants to please people because in the story when she got stripes people called out colors and she changed as people wanted her to be. This tells clearly that Camilla wants people to like her in a different way instead of letting people like her the way she is as beauty isn't about having a pretty face. It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and most importantly a beautiful soul. Instead of being famous Camilla became a victim, when t.v news channels found out about the bizarre color changing child. The Doctors treated her physically, but not ecologically, because in the story when Mr. Bumble gave Camilla the ointment, which was to calm her down. Then he brought the specialist, and then the experts, and at the end she became a room. This all…

Philosopher Confucius once said, “Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated” (“Confucius Quotes”). In life, obtaining happiness is one of the most uncomplicated achievements. Today’s fast-paced world coerces individuals to concentrate on the future, making it challenging to discover true happiness. Despite these complications, society continues to promote the concept of chasing happiness without regarding its detrimental effects on an evolved civilization. The pursuit of happiness inhibits the formation and perpetuation of an advanced society due to engendering individuals to feel dissatisfied and disappointed.…

In the essay “Shooting an Elephant”, George Orwell uses the elephant as an extended metaphor for Orwell’s morality and the outside forces challenging it. In the second paragraph, Orwell makes it clear that he “was stuck between [George Orwell’s] hatred of the empire [he] served and [his] rage against the evil-spirited little beasts who tried to make [his] job impossible.” Deep down, Orwell despised imperialism and sympathized with the oppressed Burmese people as a whole. His morality is clouded, however, by the rage felt towards the natives who humiliate him on a daily basis, giving him an impulse to “drive a bayonet into a Buddhist priest's guts.” This conflict is echoed by his encounter with the rampaging elephant.…

What is the meaning of life? The answer to this question has sought over since mankind became capable of exercising their brain capacity past a level of primal instinct. In general life is rather meaningless, we all simply exist together on this planet. But before one dwells on the pointlessness of human existence, they should think about the purpose of each individual person in our society. We create goals for ourselves; we all have a role to play in our society. In a sense, we choose our future and in doing so, give ourselves a purpose to live. The purpose of human existence in general may be absent, but in our society and through our goals and achievements, I believe each individual creates their own purpose.…
