All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
Imagine living in a world where it rained everyday and the sun hadn’t been seen in 7 years, but one girl who had moved from Earth remembered the sun. Would you be jealous? Even if you were it wouldn’t escalate right? Well, I wouldn’t be too sure. All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, many people live on Venus and the sun has not been seen in seven years. Margot, a nine year old girl, had moved to Venus from Earth 5 years ago and she remembers and misses the sun. She is the only student in her class who has ever been on Earth. She loves to talk about the moon and how she remembered it but the other students did not enjoy hearing her talk about it. These students bullied her constantly out of their jealousy of what she had previously seen. One day the sun was predicted to come out and Margot was excited for this. Some of the boys in her class who had teased her, locked her in the closet and left her there while the sun come out for the first time in 7 years. Bradbury is trying to tell us that thoughts of jealousy can …show more content…
This is shown in the text where it says, “‘Get away !’ The boy gave her another push. ‘What’re you waiting for?’” This clearly shows the transition from words to actions. The boys, without thinking, pushed her when they were talking to her. However this is the second time seen in the text that the boys push her and they use action later on in the story. A little shove isn’t thought to mean much but what they did next was awful. “They surged about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, closet, where they slammed and locked the door. They stood looking at the door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it. They heard her muffling cries. Then, smiling, the turned and went out and back down the tunnel, just as the teacher arrived.” The boys even enjoyed putting her in the closet, this show how far jealousy can

In Ray Bradbury’s All Summer In a Day, he teaches readers not to bully someone because you are jealous of them. In the first paragraph readers will learn how the kids are jealous of Margot and why. One example of this is when one boy denied that Margot wrote the poem she shared about the sun. Some people may think that the theme is “don’t bully someone just because you don’t like them.” Yes maybe they don’t like her but someone shouldn’t just bully someone else even if they have a reason or not. Also Margot got locked in a closet, but why? Well Margot saw the sun when she was eight and the other kids saw it last when they were two. So, this story contains jealousy and bullying. Racial prejudice is a pessimistic aspect of society that has critically affected many different people around the world. This idea is well demonstrated in Ray Bradbury’s short story “Way in the Middle of the Air”, which is part of The Martian Chronicles (1950). “Way in the Middle of the Air” displays a great amount of inequality and racism within America. This story focuses on the relations of the African-Americans and the white Americans in the South. The African-Americans, other known as “blackies” and “niggers” in the story, are tired of being belittled and treated unfairly by the whites, and so all the blacks in that town decide to pack up and take off on rockets to Mars, in hopes of living a better life not run by the white people. With the word of the blacks leaving town, the white people become not only enraged, but emotional wrecks because they don’t know what they are going to do with themselves without cheap workers and people to abuse. The whites believed that the blacks should be happy because they were finally given the right to vote and the right to have jobs with pay, though in the eyes of the blacks, those rights simply were not enough.…

In Mary Oliver’s A Summer’s Day, The grasshopper symbolizes the small things that we take for granted on a daily basis. The small details in life are the things that can help us appreciate living more. We do not know what’s next to come after this life on earth, nor do we know for sure what will happen in the next year or hour or second. The choices we make now are critical to our futures, even at the smallest degree. Although our futures are not set in stone, it is good to have a plan of action. A good start in figuring out my plan was looking at the bigger picture, but once I had done this, I had to dig deeper into detail, so that one day someone may be the spectator of my success as Mary was the spectator of the grasshoppers gracefulness.…

The theme don’t let jealousy control your actions is supported by many pieces of the story. One piece of the text Ray Bradbury writes is “And then, of course, the biggest crime of all was that she had come here only five years ago from Earth, and she remembered the sun” This piece from the story shows that others see Margot, the main character, that coming from Earth was a “crime” to them. Building off of that, the children are jealous of Margot because she remembers the sun and that others don’t. This is the reason why the children are jealous of her. Because the author is telling us that Margot coming from Earth is a crime, he builds up the jealousy so that soon, the other children will act out of their jealousy.…
