All That Is Gold Does Not Glitter Reflection

I think that this poem is referring to several different things. The line all that is gold does not glitter means that no matter how much gold and money you have, it will not make you a better person. The next line is not all those who wander are lost. I think this line connects to me a lot. Often I will daydream (or just zone out) and people will see me and ask if I’m okay. I always am. The third line in the poem is the old that is strong does not whither. This means that if you are defiant, you will eventually manage what you are trying to do, no matter how long it takes. The next line, deep roots are not reached by the frost, means to always be yourself, no matter how cold the world is outside. The fifth line is from the ashes a fire shall be woken. I think that this means that everybody needs something to “light a fire” inside of them and make them happy. Line six is a light from the shadows will spring, which I think means pretty much the same thing as the fifth line. The last two lines are renewed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king. This means that even if you think you’re worth nothing, you’re not, and that if you try hard enough, you will be “crowned” and achieve what you are trying to do. I sort of explained the figurative language in the previous paragraph by what it means. Tolkien uses metaphors to describe many things that could be taken in several different ways. I actually really like this poem. I don’t usually like poems that rhyme, but the way this is worded is really beautiful. The poem seems really serious, which I like, because I don’t like funny poetry. To me, poetry is supposed to be a serious thing. I can’t exactly explain why, but a when I read a funny poem, it seems kind of odd to me. I love the way this poem flows, too. The number of syllables on each line is perfect, and the whole thing seems really purposefully smooth.
