Critical thinking is very important to our relationships with each other and with ourselves. It requires someone to make a little more effort to figure out the whole story. Sometimes people are very good at this such as the man from The Allegory of the Cave and Chimamanda Adichi, while others such as the woman from The Lunch Date, cannot form new perspectives and base outlooks on assumptions and stereotypes. Being a critical thinker requires a person to gain and use knowledge to develop a perspective on what they know.
A great example being a critical thinker is it requires people to gain knowledge and consider all possibilities. This is well demonstrated in “Allegory of the Cave”. When Socrates says; “And if they were able to converse with one another, would they not suppose that they were naming what was actually before them?”(1). It makes people less judgemental and it brings people closer together. When someone has more than one perspective on a situation, it makes them not stereotype as much if they know the full story. This is true for Chimamanda Adichie and The Danger of a Single Story because she always is learning new information to gain as many perspectives on things as possible. The man in The Allegory of the Cave who comes into the light sees reality as it really is and realizes that his previous view on life was all a lie and he is reconnected with the rest of the world outside the cave. The woman in The Lunch Date is not similar to the previous stories but is infact an opposing side which shows what people must avoid when becoming critical thinkers. All of these stories are connected in a way that they all demonstrate on how to and not to be a critical thinker.
