Allergies: Asthma and Tiny Plant Grains
Allergies

Allergies are the reaction of a person who is sensitive to certain substances. The person has a body reaction. It may be a mild reaction or a very serious reaction. Common forms of allergy are a rash, asthma, and hay fever.
Any substance that causes an allergy is called an allergen . Common allergens are dust, mold, pollen (a powder made by plants), and the hair or dandruff (flakes of skin) of a pet. Many foods may cause allergies. These foods include chocolate, cow's milk, eggs, wheat, and some seafood’s. The first symptoms of an allergy usually show up in childhood. However, an allergy can appear at any age.
When a person has an allergy, the allergen can cause the body to make substances called antibodies . Together, the allergens and antibodies cause the body's cells to release substances into the blood. These substances affect other parts of the body. If there are a lot of these substances in the blood, allergy symptoms may occur. Common symptoms include a runny nose, breathing problems, or a skin rash. Once a person's body has made antibodies to a certain allergen, it will make antibodies every time it comes in contact with that allergen.
There is no cure for allergy. But it can be kept under control by a doctor with medication.

Asthma

Asthma is a disease that makes it hard for a person to breathe. During an asthma attack, a person may feel breathless. The person may wheeze, or make a whistling sound from the chest. The person may cough, gasp for air, and feel tightness in the chest. Many things can trigger an asthma attack. The most common kind of asthma is caused by allergies. In an allergy, common substances can cause sneezing, itching, and other problems. Substances that cause allergies include house dust, foods, or tiny plant grains called pollen. Doctors can relieve the symptoms of asthma with medicines. They also can reduce or prevent the allergies that cause asthma. They do this with special injections (shots).

Allergy is “a hypersensitivity response against an environmental antigen (allergen); the most common are type 1 hypersensitivities (pollen, molds, fungi, certain foods, animal dander, dust). Others include Type II and Type III (rare but include antibiotics and soluble antigens produced by infectious agents) and Type IV (plant resins, metals, chemicals, detergents, and topical antibiotics)” (McCance & Huether, 2014, p. 269-70). The immune response in allergy begins with sensitization. When exposed to an allergen, the body produces immunoglobulin (IgE), an antibody…

    Idiopathic Asthma

Asthma is just a general term for what is going on, there are three types of asthma. Each asthma name base off of what triggers the asthma attack. The three types of asthma are allergic asthma, mixed asthma and idiopathic asthma. Allergic asthma occur due to an irritants such as allergens trigger the asthma attack. This occurs due to the fact that the allergens aren’t recognized by our body’s immune system. Since it is unrecognizable it causes the white blood cells in our body to recognize it as a threat. This then promotes our helper T cells to activate the production of B cells which then causes antibiotics to be made. The production of the B cells signals the thymus to make more lymphocytes. The allergens have often just settled within our airway. The production of more white blood cells (specifically immunoglobulin E cells) causes the area to become inflamed. The inflammation of the airway causes the bronchioles to contract (get tighter) which leads to the patient to have trouble with breathing. Allergens such as pet dander, pollens, spores and dust mites are usually responsible for setting off an allergic asthma attack. The second type of asthma is idiopathic asthma. The reason why this is called idiopathic asthma is due to the fact that the exact reason why it is triggered during specific events is unknown. Idiopathic asthma is usually triggered by respiratory infection, exercises and emotional upsets. These thing can lead to an asthma attack due to the fact that they can cause the bronchioles to…

Allergic rhinitis affects more than 1.4 billion people worldwide and is the condition where the immune system recognizes an intruder which in this case is called an allergen. The immune system responds to the allergen by releasing histamine and chemical mediators, and these typically cause symptoms in the nose, throat, eyes, ears, skin and roof of the mouth. Pollen in the air causes seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) which happens in different parts of the country during different times of the year.…

    Causes of Food Allergy

Food allergies occur when the immune system mounts an attack on certain proteins in certain foods. The substances in the food that cause this immune system response are called allergens. The immune system is a complex network of cells and molecules that help defend the body against unknown substances. When a properly functioning immune system detects an unknown substance, it responds to this threat by producing proteins called antibodies against the invaders. The antibodies will recognize and attack this foreign substance when they next encounter it. This "battle" is what causes the allergy symptoms. In food allergy the immune system mistakenly sees a harmless substance in the food as harmful, and churns out antibodies known as immunoglobulin to attack it. These antibodies will circulate in the blood, attached to special cells called mast cells, which are part of the immune system. This occurs in order to protect against future invasion by that substance. The next time a person eats that food, the substance to which he is allergic the allergen enters the body, and attaches to the immunoglobulin on mast cells. The mast cells respond by releasing a host of powerful chemicals, including histamine, to protect the body. This produces allergic symptoms. Histamine contributes to inflammation and causes symptoms such as swelling on the skin and itching. It is responsible for the hives, or welts, that appear on the skin when a doctor tests for allergy. These hives show the presence of immunoglobulin and are one of the best indications of allergy.…

There are many triggers that cause anaphylactic shock. Some of the more common triggers are food allergies, insect allergies, and drug allergies. Tissues in different parts of the body release histamine and other substances. This causes the airways to tighten and leads to other symptoms. “Some drugs (morphine, x-ray dye, aspirin and others) may cause and anaphylactic-like reaction when people are first exposed to them. These reactions are not the same as immune system response that occurs with “true” anaphylaxis. However, the symptoms, risk for complications, and treatment are the same for both types of reactions.”…
