The nurses went on a strike after handing over their patients to the temporary nurses because of the issues regarding their health insurance plan. The nurses working in Allina Hospital are at present enrolled in a union medical plan and are voluntarily paying their premium but the hospital authorities want to can all the union plans and move the nurses to the Corporate plan of Allina which will help them save ten million dollars. If the nurses enroll in the corporate policy, then they have to find doctors from other sources to treat themselves and their family and have to pay a lot for the medical expenses. After the disagreement among the nurses and the authorities regarding the health insurance plan, about four thousand eight hundred nurses voted to strike against the management.
Being a nurse they know the importance of the medical insurance plan because of the emergency hospitalization, surgery and serious sickness. Allina Health held press meet after the strike stating that they are ready to negotiate with the Union once again regarding the issue and said that for the past few days the management has been talking with the Union through thirteen sessions with the proposals relating to workplace safety, staffing and other
aspects.
While the Union reports that the Allina Health has not mentioned any proposals regarding the staffing and they also did not take any steps relating to the harassments they face at the workplace.
