Alma From Time Of The Wolf Character Analysis
Every story needs a conflict, and every conflict needs to be dealt with. It tells a lot about a character how they deal with every uprising they may run into. Within three different stories I have read in class there have been many examples of conflict. A Person vs self conflict is when a character is in a conflict with themselves. Person vs person is when a character is in conflict with one or more other characters. Person vs nature occurs when nature brings a character conflict.

Much like any other story, Alma, from Time of the Wolves developed a person vs self conflict. Alma is the type of person who demonstrates a caring personality, and will do what needs to be done. Alma doesn't enjoy Sarah's company, nor does she enjoy the weather,

Not only did she have to settle down the horses, but she had to take on a pack of wolves. Knowing she didn't have a great shot, she still shot at the wolves. Alma did what had to be done and never gave up. Never giving up, Shackleton and his crew had to overcome many challenges due to nature. When the ship initially crashed the crew hoped that they could get it unstuck, unfortunately for them their ship tumbled down. With limited resources the crew had to travel across the ice flow, while the ice was constantly shifting. At one point in the adventure, Orda-Leese was attacked by an elephant seal and had to fight him off, with the help of a crew member. Eventually Shackleton had to pick some crew members to travel from Elephant Island to South Georgia Island with him. Not knowing what the weather conditions would be like and not having any resources to help, Shackleton and those selected few had to navigate themselves through the harsh waters. Throughout all of this, every individual had to be persistent, daring, and unwilling to give up. Much like the Shackleton crew, Every individual from Into Thin Air, had to deal with frigid weather. Anywhere from the wind to the snow, the weather was a huge issue. Not only was harsh weather an issue, but lack of oxygen from high altitudes was consistently an uprising. Anywhere from a night at base camp to surviving the death zone, every individual had to be strong, and willing to deal with the condition and catastrophe they brought upon

I think that most types of conflict is used to show the theme, what it means to become a ‘contender’ (by working hard, never giving up, and self-improvement) in Robert Lipsyte’s The Contender because Alfred learns this message and does the work to become a boxer. Evidence of this is when, "You have to start by wanting to be a contender, the man coming up, the man who knows there's a good chance he'll never get to the top, the man who's willing to sweat and bleed to get up as high as his legs and his brains and his heart will take him" (Lipsyte, 25). This shows a character vs. self conflict because Alfred is training everyday and making sure that he works as hard as he physically can. Alfred is so determined to help Aunt Pearl and the rest…

To say that there is no good in evil is to deny the very reality of evil’s existence. Black and white thinking such as the topic previously stated is what truly can hurt us the most. When you look at moral issues you must acknowledge that it is a grey spectrum, with many different viewpoints. If I told any person who has actually read East of Eden that I admired Cathy? They would think me insane and possibly give me some nasty looks, as well as cross the street when I walk past. But since you have to read this essay, I think it’s fair that I make my point. Cathy is a real go-getter, she does what she has to to make ends meet. She isn’t easily swayed, and has a strong moral foundation, whether or not it’s a good one is a moot point. Lastly, she’s not easily discouraged. Even in the face of direct adversity, she brushes herself off and keeps on trucking.…

"Conflict is the fundamental element of fiction...In life, conflict often carries a negative connotation, yet in fiction, be it comic or tragic, dramatic conflict is fundamental because in literature only trouble is interesting. Only trouble is interesting. This is not so in life." Janet Burroway's point is very true, and is basically the main theme in chapter three of Gottschall's, The Storytelling Animal. Even though people don't…

The main character Adelina Amouteru and I are similar in several ways. Our appearances are not the same however, because half her face is ruined and her left eye is missing from a plague. She also has darker skin, whereas I am as pale as a ghost. She also has silverish whitish hair, and I have brown mixed with other random colors. She would be considered the black sheep of her family, and I am of mine as well. Although in her case, hers is much worse than mine because my family didn’t try to sell or kill me. Mine just thinks I’m strange. She also feeds off of anger and fear, which as strange as it sounds, I can relate to that as well. I can deal with angry or scared people better than I can with sad people. It makes no sense and is kind of…

In books, conflicts are what keep the story rolling. They fuel the plot and keep things interesting. Conflicts can vary in size and in nature, too. They form internally or externally and challenge almost everybody. In the story ,the diary of anne frank, conflicts occur throughout the story. For example, self vs. self conflicts occur when Anne has to decide is she is going to burn her star of david because of her religious beliefs. Goodrich writes, “Something they branded you with…?That they made you wear so they can spit on you?I know, I know. But after all it is the star of david”(Goodrich pg. 709). By looking at this quotation, one can see that this is a character vs. self conflict because Anne struggles to decide weather to burn, or not to burn the star.Another self vs.self is Anne realizing that she can't go down stairs for the rest of their hiding. For example, Goodrich writes, “Never.I'm sorry,Anneke. It isn't safe. No, you must never go beyond…

conflict gives us the chance to express who we are in a world of people being held onto beliefs of stereotypes and expectations. In society there are stereotypes and expectations for everybody before they are born. "Aunt Alexandra was fanatical on the subject of my attire. I could not possibly hope to be a lady if I wore breeches; when I said I could do nothing in a dress, she said I wasn't supposed to be doing things that required pants." Scout Finch refuses to be “feminine” and having an appearance of a “normal” female instead she does what she wants and appear as who she is. When people step away from these stereotypes and expectations, they grow and learn about themselves. Opposing stereotypes and expectations set forth by society before we are born helps us to grow and learn as an individual,…

In man vs. man fighting Okonkwo is like when Okonkwo beats The Cat in wrestling. Both wanted to win the match but only one can win. If both men won who would gain honor? Another example of Man vs. man conflict is Eragon vs. Durza both are leaders of opposing armies and only one can walk away alive from their one on one battle. Not all man vs. man conflicts are physical though some are verbal and even mental in some cases. One case of verbal conflict in things fall apart is when Okonkwo and Nwoye get into a fight after the white men come to the village and Nwoye decides that he wants to follow them. Another case of verbal would be like in Rot and Ruin is when Benny and Tom get into fights about what Benny should do in the future with his life.…
