Mock Arbitration (Group Activity)
M/s. Jagat Singh & Sons undertook the responsibility of constructing the canteen-cum-student center building of the University Institute of Law at an estimated cost of Rs.2 Crores. The contract entered into between M/s. Jagat Singh & Sons and the University Institute of Law contained an Arbitration Clause wherein the parties agreed to submit their disputes for Arbitration to a sole arbitrator. When the building was half way through, M/s. Jagat Singh & Sons withdrew all their workers and stopped the construction work on the ground that the University authorities do not cooperate. The University alleges breach of contract and demands compensation with a plea that the compensation must be exemplary not only to include compensation on account of breach, but also to include escalation costs and delay costs. The university contemplates to file a compensation claim for Rs. 5 crores. Conduct the Arbitration proceedings.
