Different Types of Alternative Energy
“Every day, the world produces carbon dioxide that is released to the earth’s atmosphere and will still be there in one hundred years’ time. This increased content of carbon dioxide increases the warmth of our planet and is the main cause of the so called “Global Warming Effect.” One answer to global warming is to replace current technologies with alternatives that have comparable or better performance, but do not emit carbon dioxide. We call this Alternate Energy.” (Alternative Energy like the Wind). Many people don’t take the different types of helpful energy we have seriously, and continue to use the agents that are taking a toll on the earth. These energies can do a lot more than we think for our planet, and can help us in the long run. “By 2050, one-third of the world's energy will need to come from solar, wind, and other renewable resources. Who says? British Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell, two of the world's largest oil companies. Climate change, population growth, and fossil fuel depletion mean that renewables will need to play a bigger role in the future than they do today.” (Wind Power Facts) Three types of alternative energy include wind, hydroelectricity, and solar. One type of alternative energy is wind energy. Wind energy is a form of electricity produced by wind currents. Surprisingly, it has been around for over a millennia, gaining its start with boats using sails to move themselves. It continued in Persia, way back when, when they introduced the windmill. It wasn't until 1888 that wind power was used as a source of energy” (Endor). Wind power is produced from turbines that are as tall as a 20 story building and have 200 foot long blades. "The wind spins the blades, which turn a shaft connected to a generator that produces electricity (Endor)". This method of energy has been supplying electricity for approximately 600 U.S. homes for 20 or more years
