The author of this poster used pathos. No matter who you are it invokes emotion, even if you are not American. I would say the most common emotion is anger. If you are very patriotic you may be mad that the American flag would be altered and changed in such a manner. What do you consider when you hear the words red, white, and blue? Do you naturally think about the flag of the United States of America? Our flag, as we probably see it today, is not the first flag with stars and stripes to be made. After the original thirteen colonies declared independence in 1776, Betsy Ross would sew the first U.S. Flag displaying the colors red, white and blue. The First Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, changed the shape of the stars from the circle pattern of the Ross design to the block shape we recognize today. Congress would give meaning to the colors of the flag in 1777. White would imply purity and innocence; red would be hardiness and valor; blue would become vigilance, perseverance…

First, Americans are becoming over materialistic because of competition. Source number five, “The New Consumerism”, an essay written by Juliet Schor, explains the concept of competition between Americans, which leads to dangerous effects. In the essay, Schor explains how the American neighborhood led to competition in the middle of the twentieth century. Schor states, “In the 1950’s and 60’s, when Americans were keeping up with the Jones down the street, they typically compared themselves to other households of similar incomes” (Schor ¶ 3). This explains competition because even though each family has similar incomes, the competition to have the same possessions may develop in the neighborhood, even if they don’t need it.…

What the United States flag means to me is freedom. I hear the stories of the people who have their whole life chosen for them in different countries. Which sounds absolutely horrifying to me. I enjoy being able to decide my future like what kind of job i'm going to have or what college I’m going to go to. I don’t want that taken away from me.The Flag also ensures me as much safety as possible. What I mean by that is we have so many people who risked their life and are risking their life right now to keep that flag standing. All those people who have died died to ensure that I and everyone else live free and that means the world to me.…

It was born on June 14, 1777 in Philadelphia and since then, has been the national flag for the United States of America. The American flag has it's own public law - Public Law 829 - outlining the proper use and display for all occasions and situations. While many respect and appreciate the symbolic meaning behind the American flag, others disregard the Public Law surrounding the flag and representation it holds to our country. The American flag is a representation of our country, unified and as a whole. It stands as a representation of the collective American population and freedoms we are provided by our country. The main point of "In Praise Of Consumerism" by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr. was that consumerism is very broad and relates to a lot of different features in everyone's everyday life. When Rockwell says "consumerism is just another word for freedom in the marketplace." What Rockwell is saying is that any person in the world can buy anything they want because of the widespread variety and costs. Any person could be rich or poor and still have some sort of option even if you had to scavenge materials and build your own item, consumerism plays a role.…

Consumerism is the center of American culture. Americans tend to confuse their wants with their needs. With new advances in technology, as well as the help of advertisers, people are provided with easy access to new products that seem essential to their everyday life, even though they have survived this long without them. People cannot live without food, clothing, and shelter. But realistically, according to people's different lifestyles, more than food, clothing, and shelter are needed. Most people need to work to survive. Unless a job is either in their own home, or within walking distance, a means of transportation is needed. Whether it be a vehicle, money for a taxi-cab, or a token for a ride on the subway, money must be spent in order to reach the place of work. For a student, paper, pens, and possibly a computer are a necessity. In order to complete school assignments, these tools are sometimes even required. Schooling is required for many types of jobs, which provide money, which is without a doubt essential in life. Food, clothing, and shelter are not the only things needed to survive. The problem begins when people with a larger disposable income take it too far. A car is definitely needed, but the fastest car in the most attractive color is not. Needs begin getting confused with…
