when it comes to death and battle. “The military drapes the American flag over the caskets of its honored dead and presents the flag to the family members as a token of appreciation from a grateful nation.”(Davidson) This statement shows how much the flag truly means the those of the military and their family. When the flag is presented to them because their child has died, how heart-wrenching do you think it would be to watch something that represents your dead loved one be desecrated? Especially when your child died protecting those people who are doing such horrible things to the thing that is bestowed for his remembrance. “The flag symbolizes to me pride-pride in my country, you know, pride in what we stand for,” said Man #1.
I agree with this statement one-hundred percent, because when growing up passing a house with a flag I would always say they support America. Now that I am older I see it as they have pride in where they live, in the country of the brave and the free. “After the horrible tragedy of September eleventh 2001, patriotism flourished, flags were everywhere.”(Hemphill) I believe patriotism should still rage and we should show full pride in our country, the freedoms we have are just not fully appreciated sometimes. But I do not in any way believe that desecration of the flag so be a right, or
accepted. The American flag is a symbol of those who have fought for us to have the rights and freedoms we have today, represents those who have died in battle, and the pride we have in our country which is why it should not be desecrated. If someone desecrates the flag, they should be punished. The flag stands strong in my family, and it will forever fly in glory around me.
