World tour, yacht, villa, world peace, huge family, Prince Charming… When come to think of it, what is your life’s ultimate, big-fat dream?
Dreams are manifestations of our hidden thoughts, our environment, our lifestyle, our culture… so many things! If we ask even two neighbours this question, we might get two completely different replies. Ask a 5 year old kid, the probable answer would be a candy factory. Ask a 5 year old kid in Ghana- well… his dream might just be to get his next meal. So while sitting and analyzing the American dream Vs the Indian dream I had so many thoughts, perceptions, stereotypes (well, mostly stereotypes) running through my head, and I really started giving it a thought- How much of our life dream, is actually ours?
The first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about the American dream- The statue of liberty. Think freely, think big. Right from choosing clothes to a car, they settle for the best. The original idea of the “American Dream” was rooted in the United States Declaration of Independence which proclaims that "all men are created equal" and that they are "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights" including "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Well, it certainly seems to have not just evolved, but taken a whole new direction and meaning!
Americans are known to live life as and when it comes, no wonder as stated in a survey by msn, 1 in every 7 Americans holds over 10 credit cards. The EMI and credit payment system thus flourishes in the USA thanks to the extravagant habits of people! Capitalism- its at its best. Dream job seems to be the constantly stressful, no security one at Wall Street or the glamorous Hollywood! Family life doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s priority list! Everyone is just so independent! Education though considered important, is not really stressed upon to become successful. This maybe one of the reasons as to why a being “highly qualified
