having little to do with fairness and equality. Education and experience, for example, usually yield higher pay.” (Cox and Alm 65) Going to college makes it easier to find a job and make better wages. Some careers require different levels of college education , from associate, bachelors, masters, and doctorate. No one is the same, we all have different strengths and weaknesses. Finding your strengths will help make it easier to find a career that is best suited for someone.
To achieve success one must work for what they believe is the meaning of the American dream. Working hard and earning a living so they can afford everything they need, including some luxuries like a house and a car might be some peoples view of the dream. “We vary greatly in capabilities, motivation, interest, and preferences. some of us are driven to get ahead. Some of us are just plain lazy.” (Cox and Alm 65) Some people just need a little push, but others can get up and do what they have to, to get what they want. Being able to improve oneself, is a positive characteristic in society today. Sacrifice is something that will always be given to achieving the American dream. For example, at times we have to make sacrifices like moving, driving a farther distance, or even traveling from city to city for a job. “ Location matters. New Yorkers earn more than Mississippians. lifestyle choices play a part, too.” (Cox and Alm 65) Families that have both the parents bringing in more money can afford more than someone who is not. A single mother might have more difficulty earning enough money to get the things that multi-income families can. When bills need to be paid a family might struggle when they do not have a sufficient amount of money. For example; mortgages, car notes, insurance, etc… Some might be able to slide by with a little extra each week, some may not. It all comes down to how we utilize our money.
To sum up, the American dream is what people believe they want in a successful life. Therefore people must choose what they want in life, whether it’s a good education, the perfect job, a big house, fast cars, or all of which applies. Nobody is the same, everybody has different beliefs on how they want to live. To be able to choose what they want to do in life and succeed in what they do, is a life well lived.
