American movies stereotype Arabs
The documentary of Jack Shaheen “Reel bad Arabs” discussed how American movies portraits Arabs as terrorist. It did not discuss only one movie. It discussed many of them, which will help me, support my topic by referring to the movies included in the documentary and also by his criticism and explanation. The Media critic used many films in him documentary to proof that this was done by purpose and to convince the audience that the American movies are stereotyping Arabs.
Jack Shaheen’s book “Guilty” is about the films made after 9/11. In this book the Media critic discovers that almost all the Hollywood films made after the 9/11 portrays Arabs and Muslims as terrorists and criminals. He also focuses on the cultural issues that took place since 9/11. The Media critic also mentioned the government’s public relations campaigns that affected the hearts and minds of their citizens. This book with the examples of hundred recent movies will help me support my topic. This is because Americans assumed that Arabs and Muslims were the ones behind the 9/11 attacks. So they stereotyped Arabs and Muslims in their films as terrorist after 9/11.
In the book “Nuclear war film” the Media critic Jack Shaheen presents a view of 32 feature films, documentaries, and educational short films consisting of representative choices of the new kinds, which are produced by Americans, French, British, and Japanese filmmakers. He also discussed some well known films such as on the beach, Mon Amour and Hiroshima. All of these films will help me support my claim. Having many examples from different kind will help me convince the readers of my paper. Moreover, different kinds will support different parts of the claim.
The three sources I provided were by the same Media critic Jack Shaheen. Most of the sources I am using are for this Media critic because he have done a very huge research about American movies stereotyping Arabs.
