9/11 Propaganda Essay

In order to get most Americans to think a certain way after a drastic event like 9/11, the media spreads propaganda, information that is biased or misleading used to promote or publicize a particular cause or point of view. After the shocking event of September 11, propaganda was used to promote the concept of all Muslims being terrorists and violent. 29% of Americans believe that law enforcement agents should go undercover to keep tabs on Muslim activities and fund raising by joining their civic and volunteer organizations (“Statistics”). The idea of Muslims being terrorists fuels the belief that the government has the right to watch them in order to discovers who is a terrorist and who isn’t. This theory is promoted by the news media because Americans have the easiest access to news outlets and in order to gain more views, which would lead to more profit, the news
Frequently mentioned in the news, the death toll in the Iraq War or suicide bombings contribute to the rise in fear that resides in Americans.. The head of the U.S Commission of Civil Rights, Peter Kirsanow, believes internment camps have a possibility of making a comeback especially if danger posed towards the Arab-Americans escalate. Arab-Americans would be much safer inside internment camps since they won’t be subjected to public humiliation or hate crimes. On the other hand, they would be forced to feel like they are not being treated as an equal. World War II resulted in 40,000 to 1,000,000 Iraqi civilian deaths which, compared to American’s deaths, is more drastic. The image of suicide bombers used by the media is a popular propaganda. The rates portrayed by the media of those that actually do participate in suicide bombings to be larger than they really are. The numbers of Arabs that do participate in suicide bombings, or bombing in general, are marginal compared to the rest of the
