The story starts where Sylvian had duped Fintan in the belief of, that they were going to the planetarium, but Fintan he was being deceived by Sylvian, so instead of going to the planetarium, they will drive home to Fintan’s mother.
They were driving home to Fintan’s mother’s house so Fintan could tidy up his things. Fintan’s mother had sold her house because she was poor. Because of that the house was sold she have to live with her brothers and her sisters, she had done this in a couple of months.
In the way to understand the title of this sort story we have to hold our focus in that part in the story where Fintan was throwing stuff out on the house’s attic, in his doings he found a dinky truck from his sixth birthday. Last time he had saw this truck was back in college time
As a child Fintan was fearful and lonely, he was lost.
By his brothers he got bullied and his father was the boss in the house. Fintan had so much respect of his father, even though that the father did not show up to his birthday. He got the truck and that was what helps him in the terrible part of his life. He found space for breathing when he plays with the red truck.
The red truck is his most valuable things in his childhood and it means everything to him. It is also a symbol for what he has missing in his whole childhood, the missing thing were to feel him masculine and the colour of the truck is red and this colour is very masculine and aggressive. But one day when the truck disappears and he gets mad and made and rage against his brother, Because They took his only toy away from him.
