The 19th century was the gateway era in technology. Many things like cell phones and game consoles were introduced into the world during this time period. Since then technology has widened in almost every aspect like media, seventy percent of the United States has at least one social media account. Health technologies have advanced since the 19th century, people are no longer dying from a common cold. As people from this era are dying and a new generation is forthcoming, modern technology is what people are coming accustomed to. Though with all the advancements in technology, over the years people are relying on technology in everyday life and with the world becoming more modernized, people are living a more secluded lifestyle. Something that the people of today need to ask themselves is, what if all these technologies to stop working? As the world of technology has had so many advancements in the last 100 years, the usage of technology is immensely greater than any other time period. People use technology throughout their entire lives, from driving to work everyday, to posting a status on Facebook about what they ate last night. People are relying on technology that they forget basic necessities of life. In an article written by Kenneth M. Dixon he quotes Norman Nie, he says “The internet has become an internal part of most Americans lives and for many it’s a way they do much of their personal business as well as their professional business” (Nie). People are using technology in most aspects of their lives, not just for their personal needs. Society is modernizing and opening a passageway, allowing people to have lesser human communication.
