If Lyddie signs the petition maybe there won’t be as many injuries from the machines. Lyddie didn't think she would be one of the people getting an injury, but the machines aren't safe and they can hurt anyone who comes across the machines. “Before she could think she was on the floor, blood pouring through her hair near her right temple… the shuttle...” The machines are so dangerous that they almost costed Lyddie her life. People should be able to work without worrying about if their going to end up in the hospital or die. Another problem is the dust in the factories are unhealthy for people to be breathing in. “Betsy, I do wish you’d see Dr. Morris about that cough...” It may not sound bad but a cough can lead to many bad things. The hours of work for the girls and Lyddie take away their free time and energy and the safety issues cause people their lives and terrible injuries.
