First, schools uniforms are a bad idea because they oppress students individuality. In the article “An Argument Against School Uniforms,” Joel M. states, “Middle School/Junior High is a time of maturing, physically, mentally, academically, and emotionally.” This quote means that students are changing through the years and need room to grow. They do not need to be oppressed and made …show more content…
into mindless robots. To add to this a quote from the article “Top 10 Reasons School Uniforms Should Be Banned,” it says, “...it can have a huge toll on a child’s transition into adulthood.” This quote can be taken as the author saying that when students are denied the opportunity to express their individuality, such as picking out their own clothes, it can be damaging to the transition from childhood to adulthood. The students decision of what to wear to school is already made for them by someone, therefore they cannot learn to choose things for themselves and be their own person. School uniforms make it difficult for students to transition into being an adult that knows how to be their own person and can show their own individuality.
Furthermore, school uniforms are uncomfortable to the students.
In the article “Top 10 Reasons School Uniforms Are A Bad Idea” it states, “...uniforms are made from unpleasant fabrics…” This quote shows why school uniforms are uncomfortable, uniforms are made of bad quality material and can make students itch. The students will be more focussed on how uncomfortable their uniforms are then the lesson. To add to this a quote from the article “An Argument Against School Uniforms,” “...a sixth grade student, when asked about school uniforms said, ‘No, I don’t like them because they are uncomfortable…’” A student even said that they are uncomfortable. Students are saying that uniforms are uncomfortable which just goes to show that they are a bad idea. School uniforms are uncomfortable, this discomfort is unethical. Schools are making students try and learn in discomfort and this does not help the …show more content…
students.
Admittedly, one may argue that school uniforms will get rid of bullies, but this is not the case.
In the article “Top 10 Reasons School Uniforms Are A Bad Idea,” it says, “...2007 study published in the Southwest Journal of Criminal Justice. According to the research, assaults increased by as much as 14 incidents yearly, right after the introduction of school uniforms.” This quote shows that by mandating school uniforms the bullying problem will actually get worse. It is unfair to students to implement school uniforms because they might be bullied because of it. To back up this evidence, a quote from “An Argument Against School Uniforms,” it states, “...before you put into action a school uniform policy...you need to take into account the area the school is in, the economic level in the population, the number of people involved in gangs and the amount of gang related activity in the community.” This quote means that all these factors should be taken into account before a school mandates school uniforms. Every school area has an issue with at least one of these factors, making the rate of bullies go up if uniforms are required at school. School uniforms will create not abolish bullies and several factors need to be taken into account before they are made
mandatory.
In conclusion, school uniforms are not a good idea. They oppress students individuality and their right to be themselves. They are also not comfortable to the students and this can be distracting. Also, school uniforms increase bullying in schools and this is not fair to students. School uniforms are a corruption to schools and should be illegal.
