With much enthusiasm and ease, Annie Dillard's "Handed My Own Life" tells us a story that many children may relate to. The excitement and wonder that ensnared her mind when Dillard laid her eyes on the much anticipated microscope she received for Christmas, as well as its "ingenious devices," (Chaffee 50) is practically unbearable. In this essay Dillard not only tells us, but shows us the impact of her first scientific observation.…
Despite the fact that the speaker’s plan is to reveal a water lily in a painting, he cannot help but recognize the sights and sounds that also help create the image of nature. When he “observe[s] the air’s dragonfly,” he does not simply see an insect that “bullets by.” He…
When The Fabulous Freebirds first came to the ring with rock and roll blasting, it was revolutionary. When Vince McMahon got Cindy Lauper and MTV to cross-promote their programming it was groundbreaking. For every hit moment like those in rock and wrestling, there are plenty of flops. The Simon Cowell produced "Slam Jam" can barely be considered music and still somehow managed to hit the UK charts. Looking back, "Rap is Crap" made the otherwise lovable Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig look like an out-of-touch, redneck tool. At WrestleMania XIX, Limp Bizkit got Roman Reigns level boos from the crowd who were generally sick of their repetitive, whiny nu metal. Even on a personal level wrestlers and rock musicians have clashed. Motley Crue drummer Tommy…

UFO or NASA weather balloon? There is a wealth of UFO sightings around the world. There is also always someone around to see it. These videos are full of shaky footage and interesting commentary. It could be a UFO? And the video is put to the test through peer evaluation, usually on YouTube. Rational folk always have an answer. A drone. Trump flying around with bat wings. Or a more simpler explanation, a NASA weather balloon. It would be difficult to dismiss the chance that a real UFO has been caught on film. But over the next 100 days or so, you may simply be recording a NASA weather balloon. Since NASA has one hovering around the earth somewhere at an altitude in upwards of 100,000 feet.…

Living in Eastern North Carolina, I often find myself amazed at the beauty of nature. As a child, my family would travel to the local recreational center that served as a nature educational center. We would spend the day exploring the woods and appreciating nature. With my childhood being filled with the biodiversity of nature, I remain fascinated about the sounds of nature. For my Citizen Project, I decided to research animals in my community, in particular Barn Swallow birds. With this project, I will observe collective data that reported the doings and the migrational patterns of Barn Swallows. This project is quite interesting to me since I have seen these birds my entire life and one of them even nested on my front porch. With the advanced…

In the bottom right corner a is a painting of a black bird standing with its back to the viewer as it looks towards the hanging object.…

She believes that the novel could’ve been different if there was just a bit more detail. Prose interprets To Kill a Mockingbird in a way that focuses on prejudice and racism.…
The floating egg experiment – How much salt is needed to make an egg float?…
Since the beginning of time, nature has been a great source of wonder and inspiration for mankind. Writers have composed about a wide range of the spectacular elements of planet earth from the mightiest of oceans to the most idiosyncratic species of insects. Both John James Audubon and Annie Dillard describe their personal experiences of witnessing large flocks of birds in flight in their own respective passages. The two authors have similar experiences but they describe the birds in different ways. Both descriptions are full of colorful language style and diction, however their two different crafts differentiate the way the event is described.…
