She goes on describing how what she had with the prince was “grand” and what she has with the baker as “plain”. She wanders to herself if having both and being able to isolate them, she will be able to find balance and essentially happiness.
Oh. if life were made of moments,
Even now and then a bad one-!
But if life were only moments,
Then you'd never know you had one.
The baker’s wife appears to be having a philosophical moment, she is wondering how someone would not be affected if life was made of separate independent moments. For example, if one just had a bad moment, one would not be phased by that because the moment is already over. Then she goes on to explain the satisfaction that comes from having these moments interconnected. The value of what is left in one’s mind is what makes that moment meaningful.
First a Witch, then a child,
Then a Prince, then a moment-
Who can live in the woods?
And to get what you wish,
Only just for a moment-
These are dangerous woods...
