An Introduction to Road Safety
Transportation is one of the basic things that people use and need in their everyday lives. We need transportation to be able to travel and move to a different place especially if it is distant. We use different modes of transportation like airplanes, trains, boats, cars, and motorcycles. But the most abundant and commonly used of these are the cars, buses, and motorcycles. This is the reason why there are a lot of vehicular accidents that happen every day. It may be caused by a lack of discipline of the driver, refusal to follow traffic rules, or poor infrastructure. Vehicular accidents usually lead to injuries or even death. However, there are traffic laws that may prevent these kinds of accidents to happen, but it is still up to the driver to follow these rules. There are traffic enforcers who are willing to render service to help in maintaining a good traffic. It is the responsibility of the driver to strictly follow traffic rules and regulations for driving comes with great responsibility. We could admit that it is really difficult to prevent vehicular accidents. But we could help in lessening the number of accidents that happen every day by starting in ourselves and performing our role as a good member of the community. We could think that doing this thing is too small but it could actually start the lead and change those people who are unconscious of the danger that they face in disregarding traffic rules. Knowing these things, we could actually help in solving this problem by reminding them to be aware of the possible things that might happen whenever they are driving. Let us hope that accidents would lessen and the community will seek for ways to resolve this major problem.

In Poland, among 1,000 inhabitants, there are 383 vehicles. For the inhabitants, they benefit from the convenience with vehicles. If they want to go to shopping centre, there is no need for them to go on foot. As a result, time and energy are saved. However, in this case, the social benefits are far less than the private benefits. Poland experiences 49,500 road crashes per year. Current statistics show an average of 5,582 persons killed and 63,000 persons injured year. That translates to roughly 15 persons killed per 100,000 inhabitants (11 persons killed per 100 road crashes). It means that when vehicle owners use road, they impose higher accidents risks on all other users. As the figures show, the inhabitants without vehicles are less than those with. When people first find out that I am from Germany, the response I most often get is an admiring look, a long sigh and a comment “Ah, the Autobahn – no speed limit.” For those who do not know, the Autobahn in Germany is comparable to an interstate in the United States of America. It truly is, but for a few exceptions, without a speed limit. From the awed comments, I gather, that what Americans covet most is speed, as is evident on the highways every day. A blatant disregard for traffic laws, rules and regulations often accompanies this craving for driving fast. As a result, an average driver experiences a lot of stress, encounters dangerous situations, and has to deal with inappropriate behavior daily. Any real driving pleasure is lost; reckless driving poses a threat to the safety of people in our community and elsewhere. This must change; the welfare of motorists and pedestrians has to be our main concern. Together, we can achieve greater safety on our roadways for all participants by obeying rules and regulations, using common sense, and extending courtesy to drivers and pedestrians alike. This translates into a few simple do’s and do not’s.…
