ABSTRACT
The huge costs brought by occupational accidents have been a great concern to many companies in recent years. It harms not only the employees physically, but also their psychological well-being and, consequently, their job performance. This paper aims at investigating the causes of occupational accidents in a car park management company in Hong Kong, the VINCI Park Services (Hong Kong) Limited and providing subsequent recommendations for the company to minimize the possibility of accidents. Interviews were conducted with 33 injured employees, their co-workers and supervisors, causes of accidents and preventive measures were investigated and discussed from different angles. Findings revealed that, firstly, both the long working hours and shift-working schedule had some negative effects on the energy level of employees. Secondly, safety culture of the company was not adequate as most employees did not realize the
