Anakins Of Sacramento Summary
The article entitled, “ Anakins of Sacramento: Or how Star Wars mythology explain the toxic environments we’ve created for our black children,” by Flojanune G. Cofer is not effective because of the author’s usage of the classical argument. While the author does have a strong hook and background information and interesting thesis, the article is still ineffective because of the author’s weak call to action and missing concession, refutation, and counter arguments.
Although the author starts off with a decent hook, a well thought out thesis, and provides background information on Anakin, it’s the author’s missing concession or acknowledging an opponent’s counterpoint is what makes her article ineffective. If the author provided some points

In light of the problem presented and the position taken, I will analyze the passage. I will demonstrate that the author's position is not justified by critically evaluating logical fallacies, narrow usage of concepts and lack of definition, unacceptability and insufficiency of claims. Review of Against Work

To begin with, the article “Against Work” was wrote by Christopher Clausen, according to the topic, it quite obvious that the content of the article is concerned with the idea of not working. Consequently, the author utilizes a number of examples, describing the reason, and analyzing the comparison in order to express the idea of not working effectively. When it comes to the construction, the author provides a general idea in the introduction and therefore he describes the argument with the special term and comparison; then, he describes his experience of working at Heart Institute so that he can assert another argument. In the rest part, he utilizes plenty of remarkable sayings in order to support his idea and makes a conclusion. In my opinion, I consider that the author constructs his article successfully, since he offers the readers a general idea in the beginning, utilizing the example and evidence to support his argument in the body part; nevertheless, I think the conclusion is not as good as the beginning and body part, because the author does not assert his argument strongly in the conclusion so as to enforce his opinion. Although I didn’t speak highly of the conclusion, the article is still a remarkable one, because the frame of the article is like a funnel; it stars from extensive direction and goes to the significant argument progressively. Therefore, by means of the construction, the readers can receive the author’s idea with success.…

In his thesis, he used a quote from Dr. John Nicholson saying that the IQ scores from men and women were "indistinguishable" (221), and the only difference is that they were just better at different sort of tasks. Meanwhile, his whole entire essay attacked the fact that female teachers don't support the boys and that caused their lower grades. So the information he provided did not support his thesis. Also he ends the conclusion with a strange statement that seem to signify a new thesis. His concluding sentence, "When Yoda sat on his rock in The Empire Strikes Back and told Luke Skywalker that he had to choose between the dark force and the light, he knew what he was talking about" (225), seemed to make little sense and had nothing to do with his essay. In writing his essay, he should've considered his audience and that some people who did not see the movie would not understand what he was implying, besides that statement seemed more like an opening line rather than a concluding…

Cofer’s passage reminded me of the many stereotypes that exist in popular culture today. Contrary to popular belief, electing an African American as President of the United States does not mean that racism is dead. Furthermore, Hispanics are not the only victims. While Cofer focuses mainly on the more obvious forms of racism, I’d like to call attention to the more subtle mentions. For example, recently I read an article for a class that discussed the racism faced by Middle Easterners in the United States. In the article, the author blamed popular culture for proliferating negative stereotypes. The Disney movie “Aladdin” was utilized as an example of such racism. Such racism can be seen in the lyrics of “Arabian Nights,” which states:…

Various aspects need to be acknowledged while analyzing and interpreting a historical document, such as understanding and recognizing the bias, looking at history as a progress, and finally establishing the evidence of experience. In this case, Documents from The Destruction of California Indians have been analyzed, and it has come to the attention that the bias remains in the favor of the Indians throughout the article. Also, the idea of positive progress that many historical readings try to convey seems irrelevant to the documents. Finally, the evidence displayed throughout the documents proves unsatisfactory since the evidence of the experience came from a white male perspective, which may have altered the true happenings. All of these…
