Religion is a platform that many news sources use (p67), and this proves to have mostly a negative perception on the audience it’s geared towards. Religious Americans that focus exclusively on news that appease to their beliefs are similar to the citizens in the story, they have only a viewpoint of their own and no other. A good example to mention is Westborough Baptist church and how they demonize homosexuals, thinking they are truly correct because it adheres to their religious scriptures without realizing the harm they are doing to their fellow humans. Bannu technically follows the rules when he starves himself for a “religious” cause, but he doesn’t even consider Savitri when she tried to commit suicide. Bannu threatening the government with his death actually shook up the prime minister, but Savitri is not given a second thought because in her culture she is considered a devi; meaning object.
