Casablanca tells the tale of the mysterious protagonist Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) who was thrown of out America, but made the best of it with his hard as nails attitude by eventually becoming a nightclub owner. He escaped the German army not once, not twice, but three times. He and his wife have now found themselves escaping to Casablanca. Yet, what Victor doesn’t know is that the German army is there waiting for him.
Victor's wife, Ilsa Laszlo (Ingrid Bergman), is a woman who spent some time in Paris with Rick. A love affair soon started, but before long, she tells Rick that they must part. They don’t see each other again until fate would have it that Victor and Ilsa come to Casablanca and into Rick's club.
All in all, I personally have found Casablanca to have proven itself to be a great movie so much so that I’m sure that even if it didn’t win the Academy Award for Best Picture, it would have still been a movie film – goes would love. Its appeal is seemingly universal and it may be something about the way the actors act or perhaps the emotion they project. Not only that, but the screenplay is a knockout.
