I am a bishop who is more than 80 years old. Having ended the anniversary celebration of my episcopal ordination, I reflected on it many times. The direct reason that I make this reflection is the expenses of this celebration, which includes CNY 28,000, the payment for guests staying in hotel, and CNY20,000 for other spending during the celebration.
Among all guests, some were from abroad, some were from other diocese. I was very busy receiving gifts and blessings every day. Certainly, these gifts were given to me personally, but the diocese paid all celebration expenses. Nonetheless, my diocese is not rich, and needs to seek for the overseas support for the church’s construction and development every year. But in this celebration, I waste plenty of money on the following of old habit, which is to praise and honor a person’s success and achievement by organizing a magnificent ceremony and dining in a grand style.
