as atypical autism), Asperger’s syndrome, and autism. My group had three people in it, so we focused on the three prominent disorders on the spectrum, and excluded childhood disintegrative disorder. My area of research was autism, and I chose this due to the fact that my cousin is autistic. I am usually not able to comprehend what is going on in his mind, so the subject was of personal interest. I had an issue coming up with a research question or standpoint on autism, because at first I did not know what arguments could even be posed. Surprisingly, there is not an abundance of variety in research projects and studies as a whole, and I wanted to learn why. In my findings, I discovered that the lack of information is due to funding. All of the studies focused on one or two similar symptoms or aspects. They did not have enough financial support as larger disorders do, so the studies were essentially incomplete. I learned about all of the tests that people have performed to try and improve upon social skills in people with autism. I never realized beforehand how socially impaired people with ASD were. Now, with extensive knowledge on the topic, I can try to work towards accepting and helping people with disorders on the autism spectrum. During the assignment, my group and I hit multiple bumps in writing. I found myself looking up various synonyms for medical terms, which eventually led to an expansion of my vocabulary. After listening to the people in my group share different perspectives and suggestions, I figured out what my weaknesses are. As I evaluated our group writings, I discovered where my strengths lay and how I can use them to better others. Projects such as these have proven to be beneficial to my educational experience, and personal comprehension of disorders.
